Technician Training Programme 2025
This programme is a series of three distinct courses funded by the Research Culture grant. The project was to provide a consist programme to engage technicians at different levels of their careers and empower them to think about their next steps. Courses aimed at technical managers are also included to enhance the connection with their staff and provide them with the tools to showcase and encourage options to them.
Career Development Workshop - Wed 26 Mar, Wed 25 Jun and Wed 22 Oct
If you’re feeling stuck in your current role and don’t have a clear idea how to move on in your career, this workshop is for you. It will be highly interactive, with discussions enabling you to share your experience and learn from colleagues.
You’ll have an opportunity to reflect on your career journey to this point and see what you can learn. Then you’ll look at your priorities for the next stage in your career and identify what’s getting in the way of moving on. Finally, you’ll set some short and longer term goals to focus your energy as you look to develop your career. Leadership Essentials for Technical Managers (2-part course) - Tue 25 Feb and Thu 13 Mar, Tue 24 Jun and Tue 8 Jul, Fri 3 Oct and Fri 17 Oct
Leadership Essentials is a key programme suitable for those with responsibilities for the work, behaviour and development of others. The programme aims to help managers refresh and build their skills and experience in this area, as well as clarifying key responsibilities of manager and leader. It focuses on critical areas, such as giving and receiving feedback effectively and handling challenging conversations, using leadership styles and models to support individuals and teams.
The programme incorporates tutor input; opportunities for discussion, case studies, reflection and sharing of good practice with others with similar responsibilities. It also includes curated elearning resources to support managers with their ongoing learning and development.
Participants are required to attend both part-day sessions.

Skills for Aspiring Technical Managers - Thu 6 Mar, Wed 9 Jul and Wed 8 Oct
Do you look at role profiles for technical managers and think ‘I could never do that?' If so, this interactive workshop will show you how to tackle that feeling of being stuck at your current level.
You’ll identify the transferable skills you already have, as well as the key management skills you can start developing now. Then you will feel much more confident to apply for the roles you’re interested in and will be better equipped to hit the ground running once you start your new position.
